OnePlus will release fewer betas of OxygenOS

OnePlus will release fewer betas of the OxygenOS operating system in the future. The company says too many people rely on the beta versions as their daily driver, and that poses risks.

For that reason, OnePlus will release both the closed and open betas less often. In the case of the closed betas, that goes to twice a month instead of weekly. The open beta will now be released once a month, instead of every two weeks.

OnePlus says in a forum post that the beta program has now grown larger than the company initially predicted. “The program was once especially popular among more tech-savvy users. It is now much larger and involves different people from different backgrounds and varying levels of knowledge,” the company writes.

The manufacturer writes that there are also many users who now run the betas as a daily driver. OnePlus wants to make the betas ‘more stable and reliable’.

Nothing will change for users on the normal release schedule. Users who still want to try new features, OnePlus refers to the beta programs of specific apps in the Play Store.
