Nvidia has released a fix for an issue that could cause users to experience increased CPU consumption. This concerns a bug as part of GeForce driver 531.18. The solution is a hotfix that brings the driver version to 531.26.

According to Nvidia driver version 531.26 is based on 531.18 and fixes two issues, including ‘higher CPU consumption by the Nvidia container after quitting games’. In addition, laptops with GeForce GTX 10/MX250/350 GPUs could be subject to a random bug check. That problem should also be resolved with the hotfix.

The hotfix driver is actually a beta driver and can be considered version 531.18 with some minor changes. Nvidia says it is safer to wait for the next official release, but the company wanted to address the bugs in question.

The bug that causes the higher CPU consumption is in Nvidia Game Ready driver version 531.18, which was released last week and introduced, among other things, RTX Video Super Resolution. After the update, the driver can consume more than ten percent of the CPU capacity after logging in or after closing games, Tom Warren of The Verge, among others, noted.
