Nu.nl stops with reaction platform Nujij

News site Nu.nl stops with its reaction platform Nujij. From September 12, it is no longer possible to respond to news items from the site. Nu.nl wants to focus less on moderating discussions.

Nu.nl cites the reason for the decision that discussions about news nowadays take place on social media. At the same time as Nujij is closed, the possibility for readers to post photos on Nufoto will cease.

Nujij started in 2007 as a ‘social news site’. Following similar initiatives as Digg and Ekudos at the time, the aim was for readers to provide news themselves. In addition, Nujij had to become the place where readers respond to messages from Nu.nl. The platform proved difficult to moderate; on the one hand, the site attracted a lot of internet trolls, on the other hand, accusations of censorship were regularly heard.

The aim of Nufoto was, among other things, that readers could add their own photos around news, which editors of the site could then place with messages. Nu.nl is now going to add a new function to its apps, which will make it easier for readers to submit tips, improvements, photos and videos. Ultimately, each article on the news site must receive a separate overview with all corrections and additions taken over.
