NSA looked for security vulnerabilities in Huawei hardware

The NSA is said to have infiltrated Huawei to discover security vulnerabilities in the hardware made by the telecom company. Chinese officials should be bugged with this. Earlier, the US warned against possible backdoors that Huawei itself would have built.

This is evident from documents from Edward Snowden that have come into the hands of The New York Times. From the information provided, the site infers that the NSA has actively attempted to infiltrate Huawei’s servers. The American intelligence service overheard conversations of Huawei top people and tried to gain access to the construction plans of the network and telecom equipment that the Chinese company makes. An attempt was made to obtain information about exploits that can be used for eavesdropping purposes.

In one of the documents, the NSA notes that many of the US targets use Huawei hardware. This includes countries and organizations that avoid purchasing American equipment. Among other things, Huawei makes routers and network equipment for companies, but also hardware for setting up mobile networks. The NSA could thus gain access to various communication networks through exploits, but it is unclear whether the Americans have actually discovered security vulnerabilities.

The NSA’s eavesdropping attempts are notable because the US government has warned against Huawei telecom equipment in the past. There were rumors that the company would build backdoors for the Chinese government. With that, the Chinese would try to eavesdrop on Americans. However, the US government found no evidence and Huawei denied building backdoors.
