Nothing lets users create patterns for lights on the back of the phone

Nothing is working on a feature that will allow users to create their own patterns that work with the lighting on the back of Nothing’s smartphones. Previously, users could only choose from a selection of patterns. The function must appear together with the Phone (2).

Nothing’s smartphones have characteristic lighting strips on the back, including around the Qi magnets. This lighting can be used for notifications, so that a user can see who is calling based on the lighting patterns, even if the phone screen is not visible.

Together with the Phone (2), which will be introduced on July 11, Nothing is releasing a Glyph Composer, with which users can create those patterns themselves. To do this, they can see in an interface which lighting they can control and when which lighting should be turned on or off. Nothing calls such a lighting pattern a Glyph Ringtone and it is linked to an audio ringtone.

As far as we know, Glyph Composer does not allow users to upload audio files themselves, but they can create their own music or select ringtones with Sound Packs. For the first Sound Pack, Nothing collaborated with Swedish House Mafia, a music group that also invested in Nothing. Glyph Composer is coming to both the Phone (1) and the Phone (2).
