Nintendo will release 2D game Super Mario Bros Wonder for Switch in October

Nintendo is launching a new 2D Mario game. Super Mario Bros Wonder is a traditional sidescrolling game and will include new power-ups and ‘miracle flowers’. The title will be released on October 20 for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo calls Super Mario Bros Wonder ‘the next evolution of 2D Super Mario games’. The game will include new miracle flowers. When players use it, ‘unexpected things’ happen in the game world, Nintendo said during its Direct presentation. For example, the ground may start to move, or hordes of enemies may appear.

The trailer also shows off new power-ups, including one that turns Mario into an elephant. The game will feature several playable characters, including Mario, Luigi and Toad. Also Princess Peach, Yoshi and Daisy. are playable in the upcoming game.

Super Mario Bros Wonder is the first new 2D Mario game since New Super Mario Bros U, which was released for the Wii U in 2012. That game was re-released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. The upcoming Super Mario Wonder game will not have a ‘New’ prefix this time.
