Nikon has introduced two lenses for system cameras. These are a 70-180mm f/2.8 lens without, and a 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 lens with optical image stabilization. The lenses will be available from mid-July and early August for 1,500 and 2,000 euros.

The Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8 lens is made up of nineteen elements that are divided into fourteen groups. The lens has a filter size of 67mm. Photographers can focus from 0.27 meters with a focal length of 70mm and from 0.85 meters with a focal length of 180mm. The Z-mount lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum aperture of f/22. In addition, the lens has a filter size of 67mm and the lens weighs 795 grams. According to Nikon, the Nikkor 70-180mm f/2.8 lens is forty percent smaller than the brand’s Z 70-200mm F2.8 zoom lens and weighs half as much.

In terms of autofocus, the Z 70-180mm f/2.8 lens uses a stepper motor. When users zoom in and out, the length of the lens remains the same. This prevents dust from entering the lens. To combat focus breathing during moving shots, the lens compensates for changes in the angle of view when adjusting the focusing distance, a feature that Nikon implements in all its S-Line lenses. Nikon has not built image stabilization into the lens. Users can program the control ring to control aperture and ISO, or focus. According to Nikon, the lens is dust and drip resistant.

In addition to the Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8 lens, Nikon also comes with a super telephoto lens, the Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 lens. The lens is made up of twenty-five elements divided into seventeen groups and has nine aperture blades. Of the twenty-five elements, six consist of ED elements, which should reduce chromatic aberration through a lower spread of light. The aperture range of this lens ranges from a maximum aperture of f/5.6 to 6.3 to a minimum aperture of f/32 to f/36 depending on the focal length. The lens weighs just under two kilograms and is therefore supplied with a tripod base.

The minimum focusing distance is 1.3 meters with a focal length of 180mm and 2.4m with a focal length of 600mm. Photographers have the option to switch between a focus limit of 1.3 meters and 6 meters. The lens also has two adjustable buttons. The zoom ring has a rotation angle of up to 70 degrees, allowing users to quickly zoom between focal lengths.

The Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 lens also has an internal zoom mechanism to keep dust out and prevent focus breathing. According to Nikon, this lens is also dust and drip resistant. Unlike the 70-180mm lens, this lens does have image stabilization; the lens supports this with 5.5 stops. The filter size is 95mm larger than the 70-180mm lens.

Both lenses are made around the Nikon Z-mount. This makes them suitable for the brand’s system cameras. The lenses are also suitable for use in combination with Nikon’s TC-1.4x and TC-2.0x teleconverters.

The Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8 lens will be available for purchase from mid-July for 1,500 euros. The Nikkor Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR will be available in stores from the beginning of August for 2,000 euros.
