Microsoft removes low-quality apps from Windows Store

Microsoft has started a kind of big cleanup for the Windows Store. Makers of applications that have not been kept up to date or are malfunctioning receive an email from the company, explaining that their software does not meet the guidelines.

Several developers have reported that they have received an email from Microsoft, among others Neowin has noted. In that email, the company from Redmond states that apps from the developer do not meet the guidelines for the Windows Store, and that they have therefore been removed. Software makers can try to improve their app, but there is no guarantee that they will then be able to publish it under the same name.

It is not clear how many applications have already been removed. However, Microsoft had previously indicated that it wants to put more emphasis on quality, rather than quantity, with the Windows Store. There have been many complaints about app quality in the Windows Store in recent times; according to many users, the many bad apps made it more difficult to find good software.

Recently, competitor Apple announced that it would start wiping the App Store. This week, the company will begin vetting its download store, with outdated applications having to clear the field.
