Microsoft files patent application for operating system sync configuration
Microsoft has filed a patent application for the synchronization of not only installed apps, but also the entire configuration of a computer. The patent application is in line with recent rumors about the upcoming Windows 10 Cloud.
Microsoft filed the patent application for synchronizing the entire setup of an account between multiple devices. The application only came online now, despite the fact that the application dates back to December last year. The technology relies on an operating system storing all information related to a user online in order to be able to consult him on another device.
The use of ‘roaming profiles’ has been part of operating systems for years and the patent application indicates that Microsoft is now working on the development of this technology again. This is probably due to the upcoming release of Windows 10 Cloud, a variant of Microsoft’s operating system that can only run apps from the Windows Store and thus has to compete with Google’s Chrome OS.
Microsoft will probably present Windows 10 Cloud in two weeks at its own event that focuses on education. There are also rumors that the American company will show a new device there under the name Cloudbook. That would potentially run on an ARM processor.
