Magic Eraser functionality from newer Pixels is also coming to other phones
Google is bringing the Magic Eraser feature, which uses machine learning to erase parts of photos, to all Pixel phones and Google One subscribers. Google seemed to suggest in the past that that would require the Tensor soc of the newer Pixels.
Also Pixel phones that are no longer actively supported by Google will get the job. To be sure asks a Pixel 2 owner still after this, but he or she is also served. It is to be expected that the oldest Pixel will not be left out either. In addition non-Pixel phones also get the feature, if the user account on it has a Google One subscription. The functionality is located in Google’s gallery app.
It was not completely excluded that the function would come to other devices. Enterprising Android users have already managed to get the .apk file of Google Photos working with Magic Eraser on other devices. Still, this is now the first time the feature is officially coming to phones without Tensor-soc.
Magic Eraser is reminiscent of the tool content aware fill in Adobe Photoshop. A selection is made of a certain element in a photo, after which it is eliminated with the help of the background around it. The more ‘predictable’ that background, the better the result. This feature made its way to the Pixel 6 series, towards the end of 2021.
