Kojima considers legal action over fake news of Shinzo Abe . murder

Game developer Hideo Kojima is unfairly portrayed on social media by a number of people as the murderer of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Kojima Productions says it is considering legal action against disseminators of such false information.

Hideo Kojima became according to PC Gamer first linked to the murder of Abe on 4chan, presumably as a ‘joke’. After that, among other things, a French comedian and a French politician too the false ‘news’. Not much later they deleted their tweets. Some news media also took advantage of it. A Greek news channel for example, showed photos of Hideo Kojima during an item about Abe’s murder.

Kojima Productions considering legal action to take against the fake news broadcasters: “Kojima Productions strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. We do not tolerate such libel and will consider legal action in some cases”.

On Friday, 67-year-old Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was gunned down during a campaign speech ahead of the upcoming election. He died of his injuries not long afterwards. The arrested 41-year-old Tetsuya Y. is suspected of being behind the murder. Abe ruled from 2006 to 2007, and from 2012 to 2020, making it Japan’s longest-serving prime minister.
