Kia lowers specified range of electric e-Niro car

Kia reports that the previously communicated range of the electric e-Niro will be adjusted downwards. The model with the 64 kWh battery was said to have a range of 485 kilometers at the end of September, but that now turns out to be 455 km.

According to Kia, the previously stated range is incorrect because “the regulatory body mistakenly prescribed an incorrect test method for the range.” Those erroneous results were subsequently approved. The electric car has been tested for too long in an urban cycle of the WLTP standard. The speeds are relatively low and so is the energy consumption, so that the total range was too high.

Not only the most expensive model of the e-Niro has made an error with the specified range. The range has also been adjusted downwards in the version with a 39.2 kWh battery: from 312 to 289 kilometers. The manufacturer says it will contact people who have already ordered an e-Niro to explain the difference in range.

A Kia spokesperson reports that the prices of the e-Niro will remain unchanged for both models. Two weeks ago, the manufacturer announced that the 64kWh model will cost 42,510 euros, with more luxurious versions of this model having a price of 45,510 euros. The price of the 39kWh variant is still unknown and is expected to be ordered from the end of 2019. Three thousand reservations have already been received for the variant with the larger battery; new orders will not be delivered until the end of 2019.
