Japanese carrier Softbank has suggested that the next iPhone will be released on September 20. That date is in line with the dates on which Apple smartphones were first available for sale in previous years.

Softbank CEO Ken Miyauchi suggested the release of the upcoming iPhone in an interview during the presentation of the quarterly results. He was asked how Softbank would deal with the release of a possible iPhone in September, because a law in Japan will come into effect on October 1 that prohibits providers from selling devices in combination with expensive subscriptions. Miyauchi responded with, “Honestly, I wonder what I should do for those ten days? No, I shouldn’t say that.” Ten days before October 1 is Friday September 20.

Shortly after, Miyauchi claimed not to know the release date of the new iPhone, but then repeated, according to Macokatara, that the iPhone would be available for sale in a bundle for ten days. Apple has not responded to the Japanese CEO’s slip.

That day is in line with previous iPhone releases. The iPhone XS was released on September 21, iPhone 8 on September 22, and iPhone 7 on September 16. The presentation is always the week before. Rumors about the upcoming iPhones have been circulating for months. Apple would make direct successors to the XS, XR and XS Max, with the same screen sizes and approximately the same design.
