Hobbyist puts instructions for DIY hoverboard online

A hobbyist has managed to make his own hoverboard using parts from leaf blowers. Because he has put the instructions for building it yourself online, the hoverboard can be copied for others.

Details of the so-called Mr. Hoverboard appeared on Ryan Craven’s blog. The DIY hoverboard is based on a skateboard with four Black & Decker leaf blowers mounted on it. The leaf blowers blow through vents that direct air downward, eventually lifting the hoverboard off the ground. With the instructions on Craven’s blog, interested parties can build the board themselves. By the way, building hoverboards with leaf blowers is not new: Craven admits that he copied the concept from others.

According to Craven, his hoverboard has been tested with people who weigh about 80 kilograms. It is therefore not yet clear whether the board can also make heavier people levitate. The maker has put a video online in which he demonstrates his hoverboard. It can be seen that it floats a little bit above the ground, but the board is not very easy to control.

Earlier, the American company Hendo already started a crowdfunding campaign for the sale of a hoverboard. Hendo’s concept works by creating an electromagnetic field and thus only works on a metal surface.
