Google now encrypts RCS messages by default. The company had already run a trial with this, but is now making it permanent. Messages in group conversations will also be encrypted by default in the future.

Encryption is now enabled for all Rich Communication Services messages in the Messages app, writes Google. This applies to new and existing users. They can turn off encryption in the settings. Previously, encryption was only available as an opt-in.

Google also says it will encrypt all group conversations over RCS from now on. The company started a test with this last year.
