‘Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 won’t get Snapdragon 836 as soc’

Despite an earlier rumor that the successors of the Pixel smartphones will receive a Snapdragon 836 from Qualcomm, Android Police and XDA Developers report based on sources that this is not the case.

XDA Developers reports that an “extremely reliable source” has confirmed that there will be no Snapdragon 836 in the new Pixel smartphones, and based on a source with “knowledge of Qualcomm’s plans”, Android Police also reports that this soc is not in the market. the new Google smartphones will appear. The sources come with this information because according to them the Snapdragon 836 would not exist. It is now expected that there will be a Snapdragon 835 in the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.

At the end of August, smartphone insider Evan Blass reported that Google will present the successors to its Pixel smartphones on October 5 and that they would get a Snapdragon 836-soc. He did not provide further details or specifications. It was therefore not clear what the difference is between the Snapdragon 836 and the current Snapdragon 835.

A filing with the FCC previously revealed that HTC is making the Pixel 2 and will likely get squeezable sides. The larger Pixel 2 XL model probably comes from LG. Both devices have a fingerprint scanner on the back and a single camera. The Pixel 2 XL will probably have a 6-inch OLED screen with a 1440p resolution, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The smaller device will have a 5″ screen with a full-HD resolution, according to leaked specifications. According to previous rumors, there is no 3.5mm jack.

Google presented the first generation of its Pixel smartphones on October 4 last year. Those devices were equipped with a Snapdragon 821, a slightly higher clocked variant of the Snapdragon 820 that was in many other smartphones last year.
