Google is investigating whether it will adjust the notification that informs the user that the Pixel 2 XL is charging quickly. Android Police discovered that the phone charges significantly slower at battery temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius.

The site writes that in those cases the phone still shows the text ‘charging quickly’ on the lock screen, while that is not always true. At temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, the phone charges at about 4W, while that is more than 16W at temperatures above.

Android Police conducted a limited test with five phones. In addition to the Pixel 2 XL, this happened with the first generation of this device, a OnePlus 5T, an Essential PH-1 and a Nextbit Robin. The Pixel XL, OnePlus and Essential also showed deviations, but the difference is smaller with 3 to 4W.

Android Police has contacted Google and the company informed the site that it is investigating whether the text on the lock screen should be adjusted. This could mean that users can see in the future if their device does not charge the power that still falls within the definition of ‘fast charging’.

The site conducted its testing in response to reader tips and reports on the Google forum. The large Pixel device isn’t the only thing that appears to be experiencing battery issues. Users of the small variant of the Pixel 2 recently reported that they have a shorter battery life after installing the latest security update.
