Four variants of Gigabyte’s Nvidia GTX 1630 appear at the inspection body

Four variants of Gigabyte’s upcoming GTX 1630 video cards have been found at the Eurasian Economic Commission inspection body. This modest video card is said to be the successor to the GTX 1050 Ti, although it remains more powerful in some respects.

Gigabyte appears to have a number of different combinations of features to have in store with regard to the GTX 1630. There is talk of the ‘regular’ D6 variant and an OC variant, with overclocking. Videocardz speculates that the OC variant may require more power than can be supplied via the PCI-Express bus alone and will therefore require additional power connectors.

In addition to an optional OC variation, there is the GL and GD designation. The L refers to low profile and contains a single slot video card. The D means that it is a dual-slot video card. Tom’s Hardware writes furthermore that the codenames ‘indicate that all these models will have two fans’, but does not explain exactly what the codenames indicate.

In previous messages from Videocardz stated that the card must be a successor to the GTX 1050 Ti. Although its memory is of the slower GDDR5 variety, the GDDR6 in the GTX 1630 has a narrower memory bus available. With a maximum bandwidth of 96GB/s, it is slower than the 112GB/s of the 1050 Ti. Earlier, more extensive specs of the GTX 1630 came out as a rumour.

Perhaps the comparison with the 1050 Ti is not the right one to make. These Gigabyte code names indicate that there will also be single-slot variants of the GTX 1630 and there is no such variant of the 1050 Ti, with a single unavailable exception. There is also no single slot variant of the GTX 1050. A comparison with the GT 1030 may therefore be appropriate; that card does have singleslot versions. That card has less video memory and it is of the GDDR5 generation, so it may be called a better replacement.

Nvidia has not yet officially announced the GTX 1630. Reportedly, the disclosure would be imminent, but it would also have been postponed several times.
