Playground Games, the studio that makes the Forza Horizon games on behalf of Microsoft, is opening a second studio. That studio will work with its own team on a new open world game, which will not be a racing game.

Playground Games founder Ralph Fulton announced the arrival of the new studio and open world game in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. At the moment the studio has 115 employees and the plan is to grow that to 200.

Playground Games has focused on creating the Forza Horizon games for Microsoft in recent years. The third part in that series, which came out at the end of September, is according to Fulton the biggest success to date. The game received good reviews and is also a commercial success.

Fulton says Playground Games will not stop making racing games. Presumably the studio is also working on Forza Horizon 4, although that is not officially known. Details about the new game that the second studio will make are not known. Fulton only wants to reveal that it is an open world game and that it is not a racing game.
