Former custom ROM maker Cyngn, formerly known for Cyanogen OS and CyanogenMod, is working on self-driving cars. This is evident from vacancy texts on the company’s website. It is still unknown what exactly the American company makes.

The vacancy text for a job in Singapore, among other things, indicates that Cyngn is working on both hardware and software in the field of self-driving cars and the systems for them. Axios reports that Cyngn has already hired many people for the project, about which the company has not yet disclosed anything.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles has now given the company permission to test self-driving cars on public roads. Many tech companies, including Google, later Waymo, Samsung, Uber and Apple have received the same permission in recent years.

It is unknown why the company has suddenly plunged into this market. The American start-up worked for several years as the maker of its own Android fork for smartphones from the British brand Wileyfox and the Chinese Oneplus. In addition, releases of CyanogenMod were available for many different phones running Android for many years.
