Synology has released a new version of its Disk Station Manager, the program for managing Disk, Cube and Rack drives. These nas products have a gigabit ethernet port and offer space for one or more hard drives, depending on which model is chosen.

The drives offer more than just extra storage space. They can also make backups of all clients on the network, download files via http, ftp or bittorrent, so that, for example, the PC can be turned off at night while the download still arrives. Furthermore, audio and video files can be streamed over the network via the built-in iTunes server, a dynamic website can be hosted using PHP and Mysql and it can act as a print server.

Disk Station Manager 2.0-0637 includes improvements to the bittorrent client, an integrated telnet and ssh terminal, and newer versions of Apache and PHP have been added. The full version 2.0-0637 changelog looks like this:

Changes in version 2.0-0637:

• CIFS Recycle Bin: The shared-folder level design provides extra data protection by ensuring all deleted files are recoverable from the recycle bin folder. This function works for all CIFS connections.
• Enhanced BT Download: The DHT support, 25% download performance enhancement, BT encryption support, and seeding options are added.
• Enhanced AFP Performance: The AFP download performance is improved by a maximum of 89%, and upload 72%.
• Enhanced Photo Station 3: The performance of thumbnail browsing has been improved. The Google AdSense, calendar-based article browsing, and sticky articles are added to the blogging system.
• Enhanced Audio Station: The renovated AJAX drag-and-drop mechanism is added to the playlist management.
• Additional IP Cameras Support: 6 more IP cameras are now supported on Surveillance Station include: Linksys WVC54GCA, LevelOne FCS-0010, TRENDnet TV-IP100, TV-IP100W, TV-IP400, and TV-IP400W. Read the completed compatible IP camera list here.
• Integrated Telnet/SSH: Telnet and SSH terminal services are now configurable directly from the management UI.
• New Language Support: The Polish language is added to the Disk Station Manager 2.0, Synology Assistant, Synology Data Replicator 3, and Synology Download Redirector.
• Upgraded Apache: Apache has been upgraded to 2.2.8.
• Upgraded PHP: PHP has been upgraded to 5.2.6.
