Firmware Update: Netgear ReadyNAS OS 6.9.4

Netgear has released ReadyNAS version 6.9.4. This software runs on Netgear’s various NAS devices, such as the ARM processor equipped RN102, RN104, RN202, RN204, RN212, RN214 and RN2120, and the x86 processor equipped RN312, RN314, RN316, RN516, RN716x, RN3130, RN3138, RN3220 and RN4220. Information on how to perform the update is on this page to find. In version 6.9.4 the following improvements have been made:

New Features & Enhancements:

  • Overall UI updates:
    • Admin profile option for log out, current admin user’s password change and other resources.
    • Admin search to help make file, KB and community searching more accessible.
    • Time and Date format can be configured under the Overview page (Device Time).
    • Updated time and date display throughout the UI to be more consistent.
  • Hotfix notification updates:
    • Hot fix updates are logged and displayed under Overview.
    • Apache cache configuration change to allow for UI hotfixes.
  • Alert updates:
    • Simplified alerts with the email logins for Google and Microsoft Accounts.
    • Option to filter email alerts based on the severity.
  • iSCSI updates:
    • iSCSI iSNS setting.
    • iSCSI Network binding.
  • Cloud sync/backup updates:
    • Added a cloud download sync interval setting for more bandwidth conscious services or ISPs.
    • Added a cloud service Amazon S3 custom URL settings.
  • Backup updates:
    • Added ReadyDR support for the RN2xx models.
    • Updated the File Backup title and added tooltip.
    • WOL support in the backup settings to send a WOL packet before a backup starts (Backup Jobs and ReadyDR).
  • App behavior update:
    • App feedback in cases of dependencies/conflicts/breaks.
    • Apps now provide an EOL option for cases of purchased apps that are still available.
  • Other features:
    • Added Network search domain or DNS suffix setting.
    • Added an option to configure AV to scan the OS (except 100 series).
    • Added more information for volumes in read-only.

  • Updated the configuration backup to allow users to restore volume schedule configuration.

  • Fixed a shutdown and reboot issue on limited cases. (RN204 / RN214).
  • Fixed RR33xx and RR43xx warm reboot after unit has been on for more than a month*.
  • Fixed OneDrive to better handle files with unsupported characters.
  • Fixed ReadyCLOUD VPN connectivity issues.
  • Fixed cases where you were not able to see ReadyNAS on LAN with ReadyCLOUD.
  • Fixed cases with ReadyCLOUD iOS client would report error 409.
  • Fixed admin UI offline in cases where the ReadyNAS is not online and perform an update via offline method.
  • Fixed Apps utility (rn_nml) issue in user set NML.

Note for change log:

  • The fix may not apply to upgrading to this version, but any firmware upgraded after this version will not experience the issue after rebooting.

warning:

  • Devices updated with 6.9.4 firmware should not be downgraded to firmware versions before 6.9.0.
  • ReadyNAS 102, 104, and 2120 must not be updated directly to 6.9.x from 6.3.x or older firmware. They must first be updated to either 6.2.5 or 6.3.5 then to 6.5.2 and then onto 6.9.x.
  • ReadyNAS 202, 204, 212 and 212 must not be updated directly to 6.9.x from 6.3.x. They must first be updated to 6.3.5 then 6.5.2 and then onto 6.9.x.
