Firmware update: ASUS PC-DL Deluxe 1.03

Spread the love

Asus has released a new BIOS for the PC-DL Deluxe motherboard. The changelog only shows three changes, but jwpmzijl has a whole lot more to say:

This motherboard is the basis for the workstation advice of the Best-Buy Guide of September 2003. Asus has pulled open a whole box of tricks on this board to make the Canterwood shipset 875P suitable for a DUAL XEON configuration. Apparently without the cooperation of Intel (source: discussion on 2CPU.com† It would even be the case that Intel officially does not support a Canterwood chipset when it is used for a dual XEON board.

Probably partly as a result of these tricks there are still some bugs in the first BIOS versions (DMI, ACPI). Especially fully occupied systems have resource allocation problems. The SATA RAID function on the northbridge is also not very pleasantly implemented. The fixlist of version 1.03 currently only mentions 3 improvements but according to the thread on 2CPU.com this list is not exhaustive (which is good news). I also wonder what is meant by CPR support? Anyone any idea?[break]Whatever CPR may be, it’s definitely there in the new BIOS. This is the official changelog:[/break]1. Fixed ICH5 to use RAID mode and Promise controller select IDE mode cannt boot
2. Add CPR support
3. Fixed shadow RAM not enough when set ICH5 RAID mode and Promise controller RAID mode enable[break]The new BIOS can be downloaded here.
