In a confidential document, the FBI warned American companies to be wary of Iranian hackers. Defense and energy companies in particular would be targeted, as would a number of educational institutions.

The warnings were expressed in a confidential document that has been seen by Reuters news agency. The so-called Flash report provides insight into the attack techniques and malware that the Iranian hackers would use to penetrate American companies, according to Reuters. The FBI is also said to have discovered that the Iranian hacking program is larger than originally thought. FBI chief Stuart McClure is said to have said it underscores Iran’s plans to paralyze key US infrastructure.

Companies have allegedly been identified that may be targets of the hackers. This also includes companies and agencies outside the United States. The FBI urges companies to come forward if they believe they have been victims of hackers.

Although the FBI talks about Iranian hackers, the Iranian government is not identified as the perpetrator, although it is said to be a suspect. Two IP addresses are said to have been identified from Iran with which the hacking attempts are made. The FBI and US government declined to comment on Reuters’ coverage.

Recently, the United States has suffered a lot from hacking attempts. Recently, the servers of the White House were broken into. In addition to Iranians, many Chinese hackers are said to target American government institutions and companies. China would even be at the top of the list of countries that commit cyber attacks.
