Developer Wube Software has provided details for the first time about Factorio’s upcoming expansion. In Space Age, players can build machines in space and visit planets to find building materials. That expansion won’t be released for another year at the earliest.

Wube Software writes in a blog post for the first time about the expansion, which was already announced in 2021. Now the Czech developer not only gives the expansion a name, but it is now also known what it is about. The Space Age DLC takes place after the story of the original game, when players fly into space on a rocket. The expansion also takes place there; In the DLC, players can visit four planets, all of which contain unique resources, but also have their own gameplay mechanisms. Players must make clear choices about the order in which they visit planets.

When players play the expansion, the base game is slightly modified. The tech tree is updated so that certain objects can only be found on planets. There are also improvements in the expansion that will also apply to the base game, such as driving trains and better flying robots.

The makers say that it may take some time before the game is finally released. The makers are aiming for ‘about a year from now’, but do not mention a definitive release date. In the meantime, there will be weekly updates about the game.
