Elden Ring, the latest game from Japanese developer FromSoft, has been updated with ray tracing. This is out for Windows as well as the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. For ray tracing on high, FromSoft recommends an RTX 3070 Ti.

The update is now downloadable and brings the game’s version number to 1.09. This version is also available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but players on these platforms do not have to count on the addition of ray tracing.

The effect of ray tracing may be more subtle than players are used to from other games. It manifests itself mainly in higher quality shadows and an effect similar to screen space ambient occlusion. The well-known reflections on smooth surfaces are, at least at first glance, not present. Reddit user JordieJordanV6 posts lots of comparison screenshots on Reddit. He runs the game on an RTX 3080 with a Ryzen 5 5600X and 16GB of ram. A user has also uploaded images to YouTube.

The update also introduces a large number of balance adjustments. These are, among others discussed by users on the Elden Ring subredditwho react positively to the changes.
