EA has completed its acquisition of co-game publisher Codemasters. That happened about two months after the announcement of the planned acquisition. Take-Two had also wanted to acquire Codemasters, but EA offered more.

The acquisition values Codemasters at approximately $1.2 billion, EA says. Among other things, EA wants to bring the franchises of both companies together in subscriptions and presumably EA refers to EA Play. While EA owns Need for Speed and Real Racing, Codemasters develops game series such as Formula One, DiRT, DiRT Rally, Grid and Project Cars.

EA wants to grow further with the acquisition and promises shareholders more turnover and profit through the step. For gamers, there will be more racing games in more countries and on more platforms, EA says. The planned acquisition came a month after Take-Two announced it was acquiring Codemasters. That acquisition fell through, because EA is offering more. Take-Two’s acquisition amount would amount to approximately 850 million euros.
