Download Driver For ATi Catalyst Linux Display Driver 8.7
AMD has released new Linux drivers for its ATI Radeon video cards. The download is a small 55 MB in size, but can be used for both 32-bit and 64-bit environments. Version 8.7 of the Linux driver can handle versions 6.7 through 7.3 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and above, and glibc 2.2 or 2.3. Linux kernel 2.4 and Xfree86 4.3 are no longer supported. The last version to do that was version 8.42.3. Version 8.7 of the Linux drivers adds support for Ubuntu 8.04 and Suse Linux Enterprise 10 Service Pack 2, and preliminary support for Open Suse 11 and Red Flag Linux Desktop 7.0, among others. Resolved issues
- The display no longer fails to display an image after the installation of the Linux graphics driver.
- Corruption is no longer noticed when switching from the laptop’s display to the external CRT display device.
- SECAM, NTSC or PAL signal changes when using aticonfig or Catalyst Control Center and now gets applied to the TV display output.
- An X segmentation fault no longer occurs when launching SUZI/textured video.
- Ubuntu 7.04: aticonfig –enable-monitor no longer results in X restarting.
- Creating two successive connections no longer results in direct GL context to fail.
Known issues
- DiscoveryStudio1.7: The print preview and save as functions may fail to work properly.
- Quake 3 Arena (demo): Segmentation faults may occur when attempting to play the game.
- Desktop corruption may be noticed when dragging the overlay/video when using dual-display mode.
- Bandwidth corruption may be noticed when setting the desktop resolution to 2048×1536 on systems containing an ATI Radeon HD 3200 series of product.
- Connecting a CRT display device to a system containing an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 product may result in the display device flashing multiple Verdana or failing to display an image when attempting to launch the Catalyst Control Center.
- Setting the Overscan to an invalid value may result in segmentation faults.
- An incorrect error message may be returned when applying an unsupported TV geometry in a console terminal.
- An X segmentation fault may occur when launching SUZI/textured video.
- The X Server may fail to reset clearly when AIGLX is enabled.
- XServer may fail when playing media files with XVideo enabled.
- Setting the Overscan to an invalid value may result in segmentation faults.
- Running Xtest may result in the operating system failing to respond.
- Softimage XSI Ariane x64: A segmentation fault may occur when loading the application.
