Chinese technology company DJI has announced its first package delivery drone, the FlyCart 30. This drone is capable of lifting cargo weighing 30 kilograms, has a flight range of up to 16 kilometers and can reach a top speed of 20 meters per second.

The drone must be able to withstand temperatures from -20 to 45 degrees Celsius, writes DJI. It can also handle wind gusts of up to 12m/s. The drone is capable of flying up to 6,000 meters into the air, although with a load of 30 kilograms it can ‘only’ fly up to 3,000 meters. The manufacturer promises that a stable connection can be maintained from the drone to the driver up to a distance of 20 kilometers. It is also possible to transfer control during the flight to a pilot at another location.

The FlyCart 30 normally uses two batteries, but can also be used with one battery ‘in emergencies’. In this setup, the drone can lift a maximum of 40 kilograms, but the flight range is reduced to 8 kilometers. Packages can be placed in the supplied 70 liter cargo box, but it is also possible to mount a separately available winch system under the drone. With the latter, the cargo can be released automatically at the destination, while with the variant with a loading platform, someone has to remove the cargo manually.

Furthermore, the parcel delivery drone has a radar system that can detect obstacles up to 200 meters high, for example when it is raining or foggy. There is also a built-in ADS-B signal receiver that can warn the pilot of nearby aircraft. Finally, there is a parachute for emergency situations. DJI will make the FlyCart 30 available worldwide sometime in the first quarter of 2024. In the US, the delivery drone costs $42,000. European prices are not yet known.
