Cooler Master shows prototype cooler
Cooler Master showed a not yet fully developed cooler at CES in Las Vegas. The design of the TPC-812 is final, but production is not yet complete: the performance should improve a bit.
As the production process is not yet ready for mass production, Cooler Master could not give definitive figures on the performance yet, but the TPC-812 should be able to dissipate at least 300W. This would be based on a new design: the cooler is built around a u-shaped vapor chamber, a kind of flattened heatpipe. Regular heatpipes, six 8mm ones, have also been incorporated to support the vapor chamber.
In a test setup, the new cooler was pitted against Corsair’s H80 water cooler and was found to keep a Thuban between one and four degrees cooler than the H80 under Prime95 load. The latter, like the TPC-812, was equipped with a single 120mm fan instead of two. According to Cooler Master, their cooler had a drawback, given the airflow passing through the graphics card, but the H80 is obviously designed for two fans. The cooler should be available from the end of March for $70.
