Construction work on Microsoft data center in North Holland delayed

The construction of the Microsoft data centers in Middenmeer, Noord-Holland, is being delayed for unknown reasons. The American company is working in the province on the construction of three data centers in addition to the data center that is already there.

The news was last week reported by a local reporter and is also confirmed by a Microsoft representative himself. The American company hardly releases any information about the state of affairs and only states that it is ‘adjusting the timing of a number of projects, including those in Middenmeer’. Nevertheless, the Windows developer still plans to expand its cloud infrastructure.

In July of this year it appeared that Microsoft had plans to significantly expand the data center in Middenmeer. At that time, a single data center was already operational and a second one was being worked on. It was also announced that two more would be added. In total, the surface of the complex at the end of construction is 112,330m2. The expansion from a single to four data centers would cost almost 100 million euros. About twenty employees will soon be working in the associated office. In the future, Microsoft wants to expand the data center even further.

The delay may be related to the agricultural company that wanted to thwart the expansion of the data center. The area would actually be reserved for greenhouse horticulture and the farmer would fear the consequences of the arrival of more data centers. He would have gone to the Council of State.
