Chrome OS gets feature to open most recent browser tab on Android

Chrome OS seems to be getting a feature to open the last opened tab on an Android smartphone. The feature is intended to allow users to continue reading on a web page when they switch devices.

The function is called ‘Continue reading in Chrome’, reports XDA-Developers and should be in the Canary test version of Chrome OS from Thursday. This is evident from the merge of the commit that builds in the function.

When opening the Chromebook, the software will give the option to open the most recent browser tab of an Android device with the same Google account. That only happens if the user has opened that tab sometime in the past two hours, according to the source code. There are also options to make the last tab searchable and put it in the Chrome OS launcher.

The feature seems aimed at people who use a Chromebook and Android device and switch between them for the same work. Now the history of other devices can be viewed in the browser, but it does not open the last opened tab by default.
