Casio has introduced the Exilim W63CA camera phone for the Japanese market. The mobile offers an 8.1 megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, while the shot material can be displayed on a 3.1” OLED screen.

Casio tries to emphasize the camera functionality of the phone by releasing it under the Exilim brand name, which is normally reserved for still cameras. The built-in camera of the Exilim W63CA features over a wide-angle lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 28mm. Furthermore, the camera offers a 9-point autofocus, face detection, 3D vibration compensation and a Youtube video mode with which you can shoot 30fps VGA videos.

The display with which the clamshell is equipped is remarkable. Casio is the world first manufacturer that supplies a mobile phone with a 3.1 inch OLED screen. The screen offers a resolution of 480×800 and can display 26 million colors. With this, the screen offers a higher pixel density than, for example, HTC’s Touch HD which needs 3.8 inches for the same resolution. In addition to the high resolution, the OLED screen stands out because of the large number of colors that can be displayed: previously released mobile phones with OLED screens were often able to display a limited number of colors.

The Exilim W63CA phone will be introduced to the Japanese market in November. Since the phone has been developed for the cdma network, it is unlikely that the device will also be released in Europe, but the technology used will most likely find its way.
