Canon to release new super zoom compact cameras in August

Canon has announced two new PowerShot cameras: the PowerShot SX400 IS and the SX520 HS. In both cases, these are superzoom bridge models with compact dimensions. Canon will put the compact cameras on the shelves in August.

The PowerShot SX520 HS has a 42x optical zoom for a range of 24-1008mm and the aperture value is f/3.4-f/6.0. Furthermore, the bridge camera has a 16-megapixel sensor and ISO range of 100-3200. This model has a 3″ screen with 461,000 pixels and a stereo microphone. The successor to the SX510 HS can shoot photos at 2fps and video in 1080p format at 30fps. The maximum shutter speed is 15 seconds and the minimum is 1/2000 second The dimensions are 20x82x92mm and the weight is 441 grams.The camera will be available at the beginning of August for 279 euros.

Slightly lower on the ladder is the PowerShot SX400 IS, which also has a 16-megapixel sensor but combines it with a zoom range of 24-720mm, or 30x optical zoom. The aperture value is f/3.4-f/5.8. The resolution of the 3″ screen is also a bit lower at 230,000 dots. The minimum and maximum shutter speeds are 1/1600 and 15 seconds respectively and continuous shooting can be done at 1fps. Video recording can be done at 1280×720 pixels at a maximum of 25fps and instead there is a mono version of a stereo microphone.This camera is even more compact at 104x69x80mm, the weight is also a bit lower at 313 grams and with the price of 199 euros the price is also lower.

Both devices also have Canon’s DIGIC 4+ image processor on board and use the company’s Intelligent IS functionality for image stabilization. Compared to previous bridge cameras, Canon has adjusted the grip, among other things.
