Bitwarden introduces Send service for encrypted text and file sharing

By admin On Mar 12, 2021

Bitwarden introduces its Send service. This allows users to share ‘sensitive information’ such as passwords or documents encrypted with each other. The service also supports files up to 100MB. Send will be available for free to all Bitwarden users.

Bitwarden Send is similar to other file sharing services, such as Firefox Send, which was discontinued by Mozilla last year. Bitwarden users can use the Send function to enter text or upload a file of up to 100MB, which will be encrypted and saved. The recipient will receive a link with which he or she can view the content. To send information via Send, users must create an account. The recipient does not need an account. The feature is available through all Bitwarden clients.

Among other things, the sender can set a password to protect access to the content. Users can also indicate until when the Send link should be usable and at what time the link should be permanently removed. Bitwarden users can also make shared Send URLs temporarily inaccessible after publishing and limit how often the link can be opened.

According to Bitwarden, the function is suitable for sharing login data, among other things. In an accompanying video, Bitwarden shows how a company can use the Send feature to share a corporate Twitter account password with an employee. The feature is available to all Bitwarden users; users without a subscription can also use the function without restrictions.
