New Agesa ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.5 bios updates for motherboards with an AM4 socket are causing performance issues according to multiple users. Biostar, Gigabyte and MSI, among others, have already made the update available.

Users report via Reddit, among others, reduced clock speeds of up to 150MHz with Ryzen and Athlon CPUs after installing ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.5. Also, overclock-related parts of the bios menu would not display properly and features of AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive system are missing. A blog post on Deskmodder shows that overclockers in particular would be affected by inconsistent performance. There are also users who do not experience any problems with the respective AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture version.

It depends on the manufacturer of the AM4 motherboard whether Agesa ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.5 has actually been made available, ComputerBase details. AMD’s Agesa is an underlying platform that manufacturers use in their own bios. Biostar, Gigabyte and MSI are said to have already included Agesa ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.5 in a new bios update. The latter manufacturer has now withdrawn the update. Asus also tested the beta version of 1.2.0.5 among users and, after persistent problems, switched to the next beta version Agesa ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.6b.

For now, according to ComputerBase, it would be wise not to install a new bios update based on Agesa ComboAM4v2 1.2.0.5. It is said that 1.2.0.3c is the most recent stable version of Agesa. This version would not cause any performance issues and offer the usual options for overclockers.
