Apple has announced that it will release macOS Sierra, the first version of the operating system in years that is no longer called OS X, on September 20. Sierra has been out as a test version for developers and the public for several months now.

The manufacturer has distributed the ‘golden master’ of Sierra on Wednesday evening and will offer the final version as an update in just under two weeks. The public test version of the operating system was released in July. Apple announced the new version in June at its WWDC developer conference.

With Sierra, the most significant change is the arrival of the Siri digital assistant to Mac computers. Furthermore, Apple Watch owners can unlock their macOS system by holding the Apple Watch nearby. Photos can arrange images automatically with the Memories feature. The software also supports Universal Clipboard, for copying and pasting across multiple systems, with synchronization via iCloud.
