Android 10 upgrade coming for Essential Phone PH-1 and Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro

Essential and Xiaomi are the first manufacturers after Google to officially release Android 10 upgrades for their smartphones. The upgrade for the Essential Phone PH-1 is particularly striking; that device dates from 2017 and went out of production last year.

On the same day that Google releases Android 10 for its Pixel smartphones, Xiaomi and Essential are also releasing upgrades. Essential reports on Twitter that the upgrade is available to customers who purchased the device without a subscription. It is the third version upgrade for the Essential Phone PH-1 which is from 2017 and then came out with Android 7.

At the end of 2018, Essential announced that it would stop production of the PH-1 and the company has not commented on a successor. Rumor has it that the company has scrapped a successor. Essential was founded by Andy Rubin, he was also the founder of Android.

The MIUI version based on Android 10 for the Xiaomi K20 Pro has been released in China and India, XDA Developers reports. It is not yet clear when the global rom will undergo the same upgrade. Xiaomi had already released beta versions based on Android 10, the first of which was released on August 9.

OnePlus also released an Oxygen OS version based on Android 10 for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro on Tuesday, but that is still a beta. It is an open beta that is available to all users.

Google officially released Android 10 for its Pixel smartphones on Tuesday. The new version offers, among other things, a dark mode, gesture control and the possibility to install security updates via the Play Store.
