AMD will release new video cards in the Radeon RX 7000 series in the third quarter of 2023. According to the CEO, the cards are intended for ‘enthusiasts’, but no further information is provided

During the announcement of its quarterly results, AMD CEO Lisa Su said that the company expanded its range of mainstream cards in the Radeon 7000 series last quarter, and that the intention is to do the same with the RDNA 3 series in the third quarter. GPUs for the ‘enthusiasts’ segment, writes Wccftech. Currently in the Radeon 7000 lineup, AMD has released the high-end Radeon 7900 XT and XTX GPUs, and the cheaper Radeon RX 7600 that focuses on 1080p gaming.

It is unclear exactly which video cards fall under this enthusiast segment. AMD says that its Radeon RX 7900 cards, for example, are for “ultra enthusiasts.” It may therefore not be about new iterations of that segment, but about the segment below it: the RX 7800 and 7700 models. That would be in line with an earlier rumor from leaker Moore’s Law is Dead, which claims that these GPUs should be available in stores in September. Although specifications of the video cards are missing, they are expected to have a Navi 32 GPU. According to the leaker, AMD wants to announce the cards at Gamescom in August.

AMD pivoted last quarter revenue of $5.36 billion, 18 percent less than a year ago and slightly less than the previous quarter. Net income was $27 million, up from $447 million a year ago. Still, that is better than the first quarter of 2023, when there was a loss of 139 million. AMD says it delivered strong results in the past quarter, mainly due to growing demand for its fourth-generation EPYC and Ryzen 7000 processors. The company also states that demand for AI products for data centers continues to rise. AMD plans to ramp up production of its MI300 AI chips in the fourth quarter of the year.
