Electronic Arts announces that it will stop selling physical games through its own Origin platform. As of April 4, it will no longer be possible to order physical copies of games through Origin. For this, gamers will have to go to other outlets.

According to Origin, nothing changes for most users. “To that one percent of our users who still maintain a physical collection of games, we want to let them know that Origin can no longer fulfill that wish.” It is unclear whether Origin’s parent company Electronic Arts includes the users who get their physical copies from other points of sale and then activate them via Origin.

Of the competing platforms Steam and uPlay, only uPlay will still sell physical versions of games after April 4. Steam has never done this. For all three platforms, where possible, users can purchase physical copies of games in stores to activate on the relevant digital platform.
