New World, Amazon Game Studios’ upcoming mmorpg, has been delayed until spring 2021, with a release date scheduled for August 25 this year. The developer says more content needs to be added in the middle and end of the game.

Developer Amazon Game Studios announced this in a blog post† According to the studio, the reason for the postponement is the feedback from players who have experienced the alpha test in recent months. In particular, ‘the most committed players’ should get more content in those last two thirds of the game.

As compensation, Amazon Game Studios is offering players who have signed up for the beta, those who have pre-ordered, and existing alpha testers the opportunity to play the game on August 25. They will of course still be playing an alpha version of the game. The game will then be available for a limited period, but the studio does not say how long that period is.

New World is set in Aeternum, a fantasy island in the 1600s. Although the PC exclusive is a mmorpg, it will still be a one-time purchase, with no further fixed monthly subscription costs. The game is the first from Amazon Game Studios Orange County, the studio known as Double Helix before the acquisition. That studio had games like Killer Instinct and Silent Hill: Homecoming to its name. Amazon sister studio Relentless Studios, meanwhile, is working on Crucible.
