Westworld makers rickroll fans during Reddit ama

In an ama on Reddit, the creators of Westworld pranked their fans by posting a video online that would reveal the story of season two of the series. In practice, however, the video turned out to contain little information about the story.

The ama was held by Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. In the ama, Nolan posted a message saying he wants to end all speculation and potential spoilers about season two. When that message gets a thousand upvotes, the team would post a video online detailing all the developments in season two. Of course, the post got the necessary number of upvotes in no time and eight hours later Nolan left a second message with a link to a Youtube video.

In the video, the character Bernard apparently wakes up in Westworld with amnesia. He walks around and runs into Dolores and Clementine. Clementine plays a piano and Dolores starts singing the song Never Gonna Give You Up. Then a text pops up, thanking Reddit users for watching the video and expressing the hope that they are enjoying season two. This is followed by an image of a dog in front of a piano for twenty minutes, according to The Verge a tribute to ‘the recently deceased Bento the Keyboard Cat’.

Westworld is a science fiction series set in a Western-style theme park. Lifelike robotic characters walk around in the park, who fulfill the wishes of the visitors without consequences. However, the artificial intelligence of the robots is starting to behave differently. The first season of the series is available to stream on HBO. The second season will be online from April 22.
