Handy: Google Maps will automatically save your parking space

When you navigate somewhere, you’re likely to park your car. You can then indicate in Google Maps that it should remember the location of your parking space. Very practical, but it could be better, Google thought. Google Maps now automatically saves where you parked your car. However, there is one condition. Finding your vehicle can be a big challenge, especially in parking lots with hundreds of cars. You can remember that your car is at B3 or Tulp 1, but it is, of course, much easier (and more specific) if Google Maps shows it on the map. You can already turn this on manually, whether you use an Android device or an Apple device, but now Google Maps can automatically save it for you. Then you don’t have to think about it too late and still risk not being able to find your car.

Save parking space

This does not yet happen automatically on Android, but on an iPhone, Google Maps can now automatically save your parking spot. It is unclear whether it will also come to Android devices, but we expect it will. On an iPhone, there is a separate icon to indicate that it concerns your car. If you get back in and want to drive away with Google Maps, it will automatically forget that parking spot, and you can navigate as usual. It works as soon as you connect your phone to your car and use Google Maps, via USB, Bluetooth, or CarPlay. You can also delete the parking spot manually if you don’t want it saved, but Apple will keep it for you for 48 hours anyway. If you do not drive away during those two days or you do not remove the parking space manually, it will still disappear. So if you park your car somewhere near Schiphol and fly to the sun for a week, this function is of no use to you.

Handy for the dark, not for parking garages

Furthermore, it is beneficial if you have to look for your car in the dark, for example. The signs in large parking areas are not constantly illuminated. It appears that no difference is made between floors, so we doubt this function is also helpful for parking garages.
