Sony has updated its range of e-readers. The new series of readers for electronic books are slimmed down versions of the product lines that the Japanese electronics company has on the market.

The entry-level model, the Pocket Edition with type number PRS-350, has an e-ink screen with a screen size of five inches and should cost $ 179. A step higher in price and features is the Sony 6″ PRS-650 Touch Edition, which changes hands for $ 229. The PRS-950 Daily Edition, with a screen size of seven inches and the only model with a Wi-Fi and 3G connection, should be on sale from November for $ 299. The other two models, available in silver or pink and black or red respectively, should be available on the market earlier.

The housing of the three types has been slimmed down; the aluminum casing is lighter and thinner than that of the current generation. The whole line of e-readers has received an improved Pearl display from E Ink, which enables better contrast and a faster image refresh rate. In addition, all e-readers now have a touchscreen that can be operated with a stylus, 2GB of internal memory and an SD and Memory Stick card reader. The 5″ and 6″ models weigh over 6 ounces; the 7″ model weighs approximately 220 grams.
