Ritlabs released version 4.2.40 of its email client The Bat last week, probably the last release before version 5.0 becomes available. The program supports several pop3 and imap4 accounts and has a Bayesian spam filter and extensive search and filtering capabilities. The Bat is available in the flavors Home and Professional Edition, where students and non-profit organizations receive a discount on the purchase price. As usual, home users should also International Pack Updating. The difference between the Pro and Home editions is shown on this page Out of the blankets. The following changes have been made in this release:

Changed:

  • Now The Bat! does not use BitBlt Win32 API call with SRCAND operation on transparent GIF images in HTML messages. This is also important when printing such images, because some not-fully-compatible printer drivers might experience problems when an application uses BitBlt with SRCAND.

Fixed:

  • A buffer overrun when selecting text in some messages has been fixed.
  • Now The Bat! displays in the “About” box the information on the registration key: until which version the registration key is valid.
  • Display glitches, which might occur on background of some dialogue windows, have been fixed.
  • “Connection Center” display bug, which might occur when scrolling the window.
  • Sometimes the transparent “Details” section of the “Connection Center” was displayed with wrong background.
  • “Connection Center” displayed black lines after scrolling.
  • Details of the “Connection Centre” stayed empty after deactivating and activating them.
