Honda and GM Expand EV Partnership, Coming with New EVs in 2027
Automakers General Motors and Honda will collaborate more closely to develop new EVs. The companies want to “produce millions of EVs from 2027.” The two car companies will, among other things, develop battery technologies together.
General Motors and Honda want to cooperate ensure that they can standardize means of production. In addition, they will exchange knowledge and collaborate on the development of a ‘new generation of batteries’. For example, the companies want to further investigate the possibilities of a ‘solid-state battery’.
The collaboration should ensure that ‘millions of EVs’ will be produced by the two car manufacturers from 2027. The new EVs should cost less than $30,000 if it’s up to Honda and General Motors. The main markets for the two companies are the Americas and China.
The two companies have previously worked together on technologies for hydrogen-powered cars and batteries for EVs. Honda announced last year that it wants to phase out all cars with a combustion engine by 2040. The Japanese automaker plans to only produce EVs by then.
