US extends another 90-day suspension of Huawei trade ban

The administration of US President Trump has again imposed a 90-day period during which the current trade ban on Huawei parts does not apply.

The Bureau of Industry and Security, part of the US Department of Commerce, reports that it has extended the so-called Temporary General License for a period of 90 days. This means that a limited number of specific transactions related to the export and trade of goods to Huawei and subordinate companies may take place, even if they are on the Entity List.

If a company is on this list, the US prohibits companies from trading with it; a license is then required. The US placed Huawei and 70 Huawei-related companies on the Entity List in May because, according to the ministry, Huawei is engaged in activities that are contrary to US national security or its foreign interests.

The extension of the exemption period was already expected and, according to the Bureau of Industry and Security, is related to the ability for providers to continue to serve customers in remote areas of the US.
