Publisher 2K Games opened the ‘year of Borderlands’ during the PAX East game fair. The main event during that year is Borderlands 3, a new installment in the series, which is being made by Gearbox Software. It is unknown whether it will also appear within a year.

2K Games showed a first trailer of Borderlands 3 during PAX East, but did not reveal much about the new part of the fps series. For example, it is not known on which platforms the game will appear, what it will cost and when it will appear on the market. The publisher will provide more information on April 3. The video that 2K Games has released shows that the game takes place in a similar game world to the previous games and that players can get a lot of different weapons again.

Rumors about a new Borderlands have been around for quite some time, also because Gearbox itself gave the necessary hints via tweets. This is how it’s been posting for a few weeks tweets indicating an announcement during PAX East, usually with slogans like ‘Mayhem is coming!’ or “Mask of Mayhem.” In one of the tweets also featured Duke Nukem, which could mean the foul-mouthed action hero will make an appearance in Borderlands 3. Gearbox has owned the rights to the Duke Nukem series since 2010.

In addition to the new Borderlands, two new editions of old parts from the series will also be released. For example, from April 3, the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is available, a polished version of the first part of the series, which came on the market in 2009. Not only does the GotY version look better, developer Gearbox Software has also added new weapons to the game. The new version also contains all four expansions that have been released for the shooter. The GotY version will be released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, making it playable for the first time on the current generation of consoles.

Gearbox also makes an Ultra HD Texture Pack available. This free download adds high-resolution textures to the console version of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, the Windows version of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and to the expansions that have been released before. The Ultra HD Texture Pack will also be available to download from April 3.

Finally, Gearbox is expanding the PlayStation VR version of Borderlands 2. Sometime this summer, the four expansions that have been released for the game will also be released for the PSVR version of the game in a free update.
