YouTube lets users record videos in multiple languages
YouTube is making its audio track feature available to more creators. It allows users to dub the audio of their videos in multiple languages. The platform previously tested the function with a limited number of creators.
YouTube reports on Thursday that the audio track feature will be available to “thousands of new creators.” Creators with access to the feature will be able to add new audio tracks when uploading new videos, according to YouTube. It is also possible to add audio tracks to existing videos. Users can then select it in the video settings, which is also where subtitle and video quality options can be found.
The feature has been available for some time from popular YouTuber MrBeast, who has published several videos in which dubbings are available. According to YouTube, early testers collectively published 3,500 videos in more than 40 languages in the past month. The platform claims that 15 percent of views in those initial tests came from viewers playing videos in a different language.
After users set their preferred language for the first time, it will default to other videos in the future, provided they have an audio track in that language. Users can also search for dubbed videos in their own language through translated titles and descriptions. It is unknown when the feature will be available to all creators.
