Wojcicki’s role in founding Google is that she rented her garage to Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998. She tells in one personal update to employees that she will start ‘a new chapter that revolves around my family, health and personal projects that are close to my heart’. The woman leaves the video site in the hands of Neal Mohan, also a Google veteran.
Mohan held senior positions at online advertising company DoubleClick, before it was acquired by Google. In 2007, Mohan joined DoubleClick at Google, where he was senior vice president of Display and Video Ads. In 2015, he moved to YouTube, where, according to Wojcicki, he was instrumental in introducing YouTube TV, YouTube Music, YouTube Premium and Shorts.
YouTube brought in a total of $29 billion in 2021 revenue inside. Official figures about how many users the platform has are not easily disclosed, but the company did report in 2022 that TikTok competitor Shorts alone has 1.5 billion monthly active users.
